The Ashland Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Arie Lipsky, continues its 40th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 24, 2009 with a concert of "Intimate Gems."  The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Brethren Church.

The evening will open with Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, followed by Elgar's Salut D'Amour (Love's Greeting).  Thomas Reed will join the ASO for a performance of Copland's Concerto for Clarinet.  The concert will conclude with Mozart's Symphony No. 35, also known as the Haffner.

Thomas Reed, a frequent performer for Ashland audiences, is the Principal Clarinetist of the ASO and currently serves on the Symphony's Board of Directors.  He is also a member of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, the Blossom Festival Band and the woodwind quartet Iron Toys.  Dr. Reed is Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Department at Ashland University.

"Intimate Gems" is made possible by the generous support of Spreng-Smith Agency, Inc., underwriter for the evening's concert.  Dr. Reed is sponsored by Farmers & Savings Bank of Loudonville and program printing is co-sponsored by the Koerber Family and Lance, Inc.  Patrons are invited to join Maestro Lipsky, Dr. Reed, musicians and friends immediately following the concert for a reception presented by the Ashland Symphony Women's League.

All seating for this concert is general admission.  Tickets may be purchased by calling the Ashland University Box Office at 419-289-5125, noon-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, or they may be purchased at the door the evening of the concert beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Season ticket holders who are unable to attend are urged to release their seats by calling the Symphony Office at 419-289-5115.

Season tickets and sampler series tickets are still available.  Patrons are encouraged to purchase subscriptions directly from the Symphony Office 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.

Grace Brethren Church is located at 1144 West Main Street, with parking facilities available behind the building.  The sanctuary is accessible through the rear entrances.  Patrons are asked to notify the ASO Office to request assistance parking or entering the venue, to discuss special needs, or to request additional information concerning the facilities.
